How I Designed My Website with Mind Maps – Digital Product Creation Process

Mind mapping is my go-to tool for designing new products ranging from mobile apps to technical developer portals. In this video, I’ll walk you through how I planned out my entire website silverandsteel.org using a digital mind map. Along the way we’ll cover 1) when to use mind maps in the product design process, 2) the fundamental questions you should be asking when designing any new product or service, and 3) how the map helps solve tough design challenges as you’re building.

  1. Hello Sheng, I subscribed a while ago because I was looking for mind maps videos to make mine better. I've been enjoying your content since and don't miss a video! This one comes at the right time because I'm making a mind map for my very own website I'm working on. I took a lot of notes. Thank you very much!

  2. Great Video Sheng! I really enjoyed the background music along with the content you presented. I started to use mind maps quite often after watching your channel and notice it brings a lot of clarity and reduces the anxiety of having a tall ask. Your insight on WHY is inspiring. I am not sure if this was intended, as you shared why you started Silver and Steel, it highlighted your why and desire in what you are creating. I believe this comes across very well in your videos/website. Thank you for continuing to bring tons of quality content. All the best!

  3. Have you heard about Obsidian? It is interesting because it allows you to connect your notes and then visualizes all your notes in an organic and interconnected network similar to a mind map. I believe this program helps facilitate first principles thinking and may be structured similarly to neural networks in your brain.
