The Mathematics for a Chess-Playing Africa | Ntalasha Gladys Mwansa | TEDxUCT



The preferred African narrative is one that seems to be condemned to end in impoverishment. To most, Africa’s debut onto the global scene was the Triangular Slave trade that plundered the continent’s people. In succession was the Scramble for Africa that robbed Africans of their land and resources. Then Western colonisation that pillaged Africans of their living choices. Finally came African independence, that, indeed, gave back choice, but in such a limited manner that it pronounced Africans poor. In this talk, this infamous sequence of events is dubbed the X-tale. The X-tale’s myths and mistruths are debunked, then replaced by a more psychologically encouraging narrative, aimed at putting those that want to do something for Africa’s real independence in the right mindset. Subsequently, case studies of African nations are presented to re-investigate the key problem(s) that might hamper their progress.
