Heavy Traffic Jam in Space | Kees Van Der Pols | TEDxEcublens

Space junk around the Earth is threatening the availability of vital services such as weather forecasting, disaster warning, climate monitoring, emergency response, GPS and communication. To tackle this problem, a Swiss startup designed a robot capable of grabbing a piece of space junk of the size of a washing machine and removing it from space.
Kees van der Pols is head of Ground Segment and Mission Operations at ClearSpace, a ground-breaking intiative based in Switzerland to clear up Space debris. ClearSpace provides in-orbit services to support institutions and commertial operators in accomplishing their space missions safely and sustainably. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
